Practical training
The program totals 100 clock hours, split into two 50-hour courses: Optical Fiber Fundamentals and Optical Fiber Network Installation and Maintenance. It covers transmission principles, cables, splices, connectors, light sources, transmitters, detectors, receivers, network installation, cable and link measurements, and fault detection.
Blended format and requirements
The course is delivered in person with virtual support through the UNSJ SIED and Virtual Campus. Practical sessions take place in LED&T laboratories using professional equipment, and all work materials are included. Applicants need basic knowledge of ICT, computing or related work, near visual acuity (glasses are allowed), steady fine motor skills, and the ability to identify colors under TIA-598. A computer with internet access is required.
Practice groups and certification
To ensure access to professional equipment, Group A attends practical sessions on Tuesdays and Groups B and C on Wednesdays. Students who pass the theoretical and practical assessments with at least 80% attendance receive an Approval Certificate. Those who pass the theoretical component with 80% attendance may receive an Attendance Certificate even if they do not complete or pass the practical assessments.
Academic continuation
Students who complete the course may join the third stage of the program in 2027 and pursue the University Diploma in Optical Fiber Network Installation and Maintenance.
